Brief Monthly E-mail Newsletter: Water World |
||
Target Audience: Pet Supplies Stores and other retail customers of the Water Rover portable pet water bowl Purpose of Newsletter: To (a) keep Water Rover "top of mind" and (b) provide useful merchandising and marketing tips for Water Rover retailers Sample Masterhead:
Sample Issues: December 2005 Issue: Create a “Holiday Gifts for Your Friends’ Pets” Display An interesting aspect of the pet products market is that pet owners’ friends understand the emotional bond that the owner has for his or her pet, and will often purchase pet products as a gift for the pet owner. Last month we talked about your “holiday gifts for your pet” display. This month we recommend that you rearrange the display and change the props and signage. Your new theme: “Pets are Part of the Family! Don’t Forget Your Friends’ Pets! Of course, be sure to include a big basket stuffed with a colorful assortment of Water Rovers™. Water Rover™ is a perfect impulse buy item – whether your customers are buying for their own pet or picking one up for each of the pets on their holiday shopping list. March 2006 Issue: Sponsor Local Charitable Events Many communities hold pet walks and other events for pet-related charities. These events are great opportunities to advertise your business to a highly targeted audience of local pet lovers. Find out what events will be held in your area in the next year and contact the organizers to sign up as a sponsor. In addition to having your business’ logo on event literature, most events give sponsors the opportunity to distribute items to event participants – either as part of an “event bag” or at a staffed booth at the event itself. To maximize your exposure, distribute an item that participants will keep for years and use frequently: A Water Rover portable pet water bowl, with your store’s name, address, phone number & website either screen printed or affixed with a sticker to the outside of the bowl! April 2006 Issue: Create a “Puppy Starter Kit” As a tie-in to National Pet Week (May 7 – 13), April and May are the ideal time to create and promote a “Puppy Starter Kit” containing everything a new pet owner needs to make their puppy comfortable. For one package price you can offer leash, collars, water and food bowls, bed, crate, car restraint system, chew toy, a 2-week supply of food, and, of course, a Water Rover™ (because puppies need water wherever they go). November 2006 Issue: Create and Use a Customer Mailing List If you’re not asking your customers for their contact information, you’re missing out on a valuable marketing opportunity. Savvy pet products retailers maintain an up-to-date mailing list with the names, addresses and e-mail addresses of customers and potential customers – and then send out communications on a regular basis. What to send? It can be anything from a mailed catalog or flyer to a brief e-mail describing the weekly special (such as a discount on Water Rover™!) or giving the time and location of the upcoming local event in which you’ll be participating. The idea is to stay “top of mind” and position your business as the “go to” place for the products and services that you offer. December 2006 Issue: Encourage Your Customers to “Spread the Word” “Word of mouth” is one of the most valuable forms of advertising. It’s powerful, effective, and very inexpensive! Your satisfied customers can be your best spokespeople and biggest cheerleaders. However, even happy customers can use reminders that they ought to “tell a friend.” How can you accomplish this? Here are some ideas…
